TV tonight: 'Rules,' 'Molly,' 'Castle'
Posted February 24, 2013
Rules of Engagement | CBS, 8:30 ET/PT
A trip to the hospital convinces Patrick Warburton's Jeff to change his eating habits in an episode that is likely to inspire the kind of glass-half-full/half-empty musings so common to this series - and to the rest of CBS' Monday comedy lineup. On the full side, you have Warburton and Megyn Price (Jeff's wife Audrey), who play one of the funniest and most believable married couples on TV. On the empty side, you have pretty much everything and everyone else going on around them in this pedestrian time-slot filler. So absent an unlikely spin-off, your best option is to DVR the show, watch their scenes, and fast-forward through everything else.
Mike & Molly | CBS, 9:30 ET/PT
Then there's Mike & Molly, a show where the crudeness of some of the dialogue (half empty) is usually overcome by the charm and skill of an excellent ensemble (half full). And tonight that ensemble is bolstered by one of TV's more versatile guest stars, Gerald McRaney, fresh off a terrific appearance on Justified. Oh, and if you've been watching Justified - and if you haven't, boy, are you missing a great run from one of TV's finest series - you'll be happy to know that McRaney's character here will most likely not have his foot chopped off or have a wound soldered with a blowtorch. Not that McRaney should complain: That stretch should have put him in the thick of the guest Emmy race.
Castle | ABC, 10 ET/PT
Castle has a big guest of its own: James Brolin, who plays Castle's dad. Alas, all is not happy in the family manse, as father and grandfather are dealing with Alexis' kidnapping, in this conclusion of a two-part story.
