'Bachelor' Sean takes the plunge
Posted February 5, 2013
And just like that we're in Alberta, Canada. It's technically Week 6 of Bachelor Sean Lowe's quest for love, but it's Tuesday, Part 2 of a "special event," says ABC. (The show needs to move along so that it can wrap before Dancing With the Stars premieres on March 18.)
Sean's unhappy. There is lingering "tension" in the house, says AshLee. And her name is Tierra.
Three dates are on the agenda tonight - two one-on-ones and a group date.
First one-on-one goes to Catherine, 26, a graphic designer from Seattle. As she's standing in a blizzard, Sean pulls up in a snowbus. He tells her they're going to "play on a glacier." They goof around and laugh as they head to Jasper National Park.
"I love the rugged handsome manliness of Sean," she confesses.
He points out that they're getting pelted by snow and it's freezing. But that doesn't stop them from frolicking like happy polar bear cubs. "I'm having a blast," says Catherine. They roll around in the snow, laugh and hug. "This is what I want from a wife!" Sean says, and they manage to be happy in the wind, ice and frigid temps. "I'm having fun, and it's all because of Catherine," he says.
Later, they get dressed up and take a carriage ride. "I want everything with him," confesses Catherine, who does not stop smiling and laughing when she's with him. "I don't want it to end."
They visit a special Bachelor-made ice castle. Inside there's a couch and a fire. "Sometimes it just clicks," Sean says, as they snuggle under a blanket, "and it just clicks with you."
Catherine tells Sean she wants him to know why she's always so positive and goofy and fun-loving. It's because she's been through a lot. She says that, at age 12, she and her best friend went to summer camp. "We were walking back and the trail was very narrow ... and we hear this crack and it's a tree falling. It fell on the girl in front of me and killed her instantly." Catherine says said it made her realize that "things can be taken from you very, very early."
He gives her a rose and says, "I'm crazy about you and can't get enough of you." They kiss.
"I am hopeful that Sean and I will find our happily ever after together," Catherine tells the cameras.
Says Sean, "Catherine has melted my heart."
Sean's happy now. And it's pretty obvious Catherine could be THE one.
Group date: Tierra, Sarah, AshLee, Lindsay, Selma, Lesley and Daniella. Daniella is upset about it. She was particularly hoping for a one-on-one date.
Sean and the women are going to canoe across the lake. Lesley immediately jumps in Sean's canoe, leaving the other women to divide up into two boats. They're all hoping the day will end with hot tubs and fireside snuggling. But no. They're going to jump in the "just above freezing" water for the Lake Louise Polar Bear Plunge.
"You don't have to do it if you really don't want to," says Sean, introducing a lifeguard and EMT, who warns them of hypothermia.
Selma declines to do it. "I just don't feel it's necessary to put my life at risk." She adds, "I'm from Baghdad. I'm from the desert. We are warm-weather people."
AshLee is "nervous." Lindsay is rarin' to go. Tierra thinks it's "crazy" but decides to go for it. Lesley says she doesn't mind "getting hypothermia for a rose." Daniella and Sarah put on robes and join the others.
They all strip down to their bathing suits and start screaming as they head for the water. They jump in, squealing and gasping for breath before running back out immediately. Lesley says it was "awesome." Sarah says it was "amazing." Daniella says it was "like the best experience ever." AshLee is proud of herself.
And then there's Tierra. She's bending over, walking around and eventually drops to the ground. The EMT and lifeguard wrap her in a blanket. She's shaking. They cart her away, back to the hotel. Catherine and Desiree greet her, asking if she's OK. Tierra continues to shake, mascara running down her face. The rest of the women arrive and they're fine.
Next thing we see is Tierra eating a hamburger, with oxygen tubes in her nose. Sean shows up to comfort her. She tells him that when she came back to the house in a wheelchair she said, "This guy better marry me!"
He says, "You keep finding ways to get one-on-one time with me." He gives her a kiss and tells her to stay in bed, not to come to the party. And, of course, you know what that means.
Later that night, Lesley tells Sean she's "so excited to be" with him. He tells her, "I just want you to know I appreciate you so much." She confesses, "Something is definitely happening with us. We have the connection. And the chemistry. And the passion."
Sarah shares some family photos with Sean, including one of her learning to ride a bike with the help of a prosthesis. "I'd love for you to meet the (family) one day," she says. She kisses him and he's freaking out. "Am I ready to meet the family?" he asks the cameras.
Meanwhile, here comes Tierra. You knew she'd show up. Sean sees her and whisks her away for some private time.
"This is ridiculous," says Lindsay, who interrupts them and whisks him away.
The group date rose goes to ... Lesley. "It feels so freaking good," she says.
Tierra pouts that it's not "fair." She says, "I deserved it."
The party ends, but Sean's still thinking about Sarah. He gets her and tells her he "felt a connection" on the first date, but lately he has been "trying to force it." He adds, "I wanted it to work so badly but it just hasn't been there."
"Ok," she says quietly. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't totally hurt and surprised," she says.
He tells her he doesn't want her "to sit around" if it's not in her best interest. She puts on a McKayla Maroney unimpressed face for a split second before dissolving into tears. "I'm completely blindsided," she tells the cameras. "I'm embarrassed about the whole thing." It's a sad moment. He meets her in the lobby and walks her out. Tears roll down her face in the limo.
The second one-on-one date goes to Desiree, 26, the bridal stylist and Katie Holmes lookalike from Colorado. They go for a hike to the top of a mountain and Sean says there's a picnic waiting at the bottom. They just have to rappel down 400 feet to get to it. (Isn't this date plan getting a little old?) They inch their way down. "I hope I don't die," she squeaks. "This is really steep," she mutters. "I'm falling," she whines. "I'm worried."
They wind up getting down just fine. While sitting on a blanket in a meadow, he reassures her that he has feelings for her. They kiss. She dares him to climb a tree and he hops right up and does it. She follows him. "I did this all my childhood," she says, inviting the question -- why was the mountain so tough? But Sean doesn't ask that. He just kisses her in the tree.
Later, they get cozy in a tepee. There's a fire, but it's cold. We can see their breath as they talk. Desiree says she grew up living in a tent five different times. "I didn't grow up with money," she says. "Money ... doesn't matter to me at all." She admits that she did feel the difference at school. "But I think my parents always made it work..." She goes on to say that she's looking for "a best friend" and someone who wants to have a family.
He says, "I've had so much fun with you today. ... I want you to know how special I think you are." He gives her a rose.
Cocktail party: Selma decides to defy her mother's wishes. She gets Sean alone and gives him a kiss. (That didn't last long!) "To kiss someone on national television was a huge shame to my family, but Mama, please forgive me. It was necessary. I had to bring out the big guns tonight." (She's spilling out of her dress, proving she did bring out the "big guns.")
Sean and Lindsay carve out time for more smooching. "Right now, I feel like Lindsay is the total package," Sean tells the camera.
AshLee steals him away and gives him a scarf to blindfold her. It's not exactly a 50 Shades of Grey thing. She says, "This scarf represents me giving you the opportunity to lead me, us" into the future. She explains she hates the unknown. He puts it on her and carries her to a different couch. "I'm freaking out," she says. He kisses her as she's blindfolded. She's teary. "That was so good. Thank you."
He says, "You can give control to me sometimes."
She says, "I adore you. I'm totally falling for you." Sean ought to charge her for all the therapy.
Rose ceremony: Catherine, Lesley and Desiree have roses. Sean gives roses to Lindsay, AshLee and Tierra get roses.
Exiting: Selma and Daniella. Selma hugs him. "This definitely does not feel good," says Selma. "I'm obviously hurt!" says Daniella. Bye, bye.
Next date, Sean promises, things will heat up as they head to St. Croix.
